if your local mall has more and more begun resembling a post-apocalyptic ghost town, then chances are you’re already well aware of the “retail apocalypse” underway. Last year, amidst crashing retail sales nationwide, more than 5,800 American stores shut down across the country, with many brands declaring bankruptcy altogether. And while giants like Target and Walmart have managed to survive the ‘retailocalypse’ with their fleet (and sales) intact, others have been scrambling to adapt to customers’ growing demand for online shopping. But the transition has left many brands – like Sears, Barneys New York and GNC – forced to make massive cuts in their physical presence in order to shift finances to their e-commerce divisions. At this point in 2019, nearly 9,000 stores have already been earmarked for closing. And for many brands, the writing is already on the wall as they attempt to survive bankruptcy through emergency restructurings. As we’ve seen, the massive closures have had a ripple effect on the supply end as well. The closing of all Toys “R” Us stores in America last year forced toy suppliers like Hasbro to fire thousands of employees in order to make up for the loss of one of their largest customers. So better get your shopping in now:

LifeWay Christian Resources, LifeWay Christian Store** has been one of America’s largest suppliers of Christian literature and religious products for the better part of the last century. The company rebranded its retail outlets with the “LifeWay” logo in the late 1990s to massive success, expanding its physical presence to nearly 150 store locations throughout the United States. By the early 2010s, it seemed as though LifeWay had managed to clinch the Christian market from its primary competitor, Family Christian Resources, which declared bankruptcy and abruptly shut down its 200+ stores.

kChristmas, many of these stores will officially be no more.
