NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - Tennessee lawmakers have passed a bill to prominently display the national motto, "In God We Trust," in public schools.
The National Motto in the Classroom Act passed Monday. It will now go to Gov. Bill Haslam's desk to be signed.
It's sponsored by Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mt. Juliet, and will take effect in the 2018-19 school year.
The bill defines "prominent location" by a school entryway, cafeteria, or common area where students are likely to see the national motto display.
A similar bill is making its way through the Florida Legislature.
