A Georgia woman was found half-decomposed, crawling with maggots -- and still alive

A father and son in Sugar Hill, Ga. are facing charges of neglect of a disabled person after a woman was found living in deplorable conditions, suffering as she was being eaten by maggots and roaches.

WXIA in Georgia reported that fire department crews were dispatched to the woman's home where she was found unconscious. They arrived and found her in unhealthy, unsafe conditions.

They reported that her legs were completely black and brown and a tarp she was resting on, that was at least a month old, was covered in feces. The tarp was the same one used a month previously by the same crew to help return the woman to her home after a hospital visit.

Firefighters said the woman's legs were showing sign of decomposition and the insects that covered her were eating her flesh. Her current condition is not known.

WXIA reported the Gwinnett County Fire Department stating: “they did not believe she would live much longer and felt a moral obligation to report this.”

Police reportedly spoke to the woman's son and husband who said they were the woman's sole caretakers and were out of work and said finances were tight. The woman had been reportedly bedridden for two years. The two men were charged with neglect of a disabled person.

Garbage reportedly littered the floor and the residence was crawling with roaches. The bed the woman was on was surrounded by garbage.
