PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (WPEC) — The pilot of a private plane had an escort to the ground by two F-16 fighter jets after violating the temporary restricted air space due to President Donald Trump's presence at Mar-a-Lago. A spokesman for NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, told CBS12 the airspace violation happened Sunday afternoon. Navy Lt. Michael Hatfield said the plane came within 29 miles of the Winter White House when the jets escorted it to the North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport. Hatfield said the jets, from Homestead Air Reserve Base, were on patrol when the pilots received the mission to intercept the private plane. The penalty for an airspace violation is up to the FAA, according to Hatfield. A spokeswoman for the FAA told CBS12 it will have sometime Tuesday the number of airspace violations during Trump's stay this holiday. The TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) for the VIP visit is in place until tonight. President Trump is scheduled to leave West Palm Beach Monday afternoon
